About Burnstick

For over a decade, Burnstick, the award-winning husband and wife duo of Francophone-Métis singer-songwriter Nadia and Plains-Cree guitarist Jason, have been crafting songs that push the boundaries of traditional folk. The duo's signature sound is driven by Jason's masterful playing of 100-year-old Weissenborn lap slide guitars that magically resonate with Nadia's vocals. Together, that chemistry is palpable on stage during their performances.

Their 2019 JUNO-nominated debut album, Kîyânaw (Cree: Us) album, featuring thunderous singles like "Pay No Mind" and the Canadian Folk Music Award-winning "Some Kind of Hell," brought Burnstick's ability to blend traditional and modern influences to the national stage. Beyond their successful album, the duo's talent for composing has led them to collaborate on numerous award-winning film and television projects.

Founded in 1988 and known for the quality of its programming, Mission Folk Music Festival Society produces year round events as well as its signature three day festival in July. Staged in one of BC’s loveliest parks overlooking the Fraser River, the Mission Folk Music Festival takes place every July and features music, stories, songs, and dances of many peoples and cultures from across Canada and around the world to our own communities here in Mission, the Fraser Valley, and the Pacific Northwest. Together, we create a festival family that sustains us year round.
